FLAGSTAFF (October 1, 2017)

Nearly one hundred Flagstaff community members engaged in thoughtful discussion about funding preK – 12 education in Arizona for four hours on October 1, 2017 at the Coconino Community College Lone Tree Campus. Students, educators, parents, government officials, business leaders, and other concerned citizens crafted a five-page report with their recommendations for improving the funding of our educational system. Future Leaders Make Recommendations About Their Education

FLAGSTAFF (September 26, 2017)

Twenty-One student leaders from all seven Flagstaff area high schools met on September 26, 2017 to discuss their ideas for what a world-class education system could look like. They drafted a three page report with their recommendations around goals and and actions for community leaders, policy makers and citizens to take for creating this educational system. The first LAUNCH Flagstaff Community Leadership Council convened on September 13, 2017. Leaders learned a little more about each other and what might be possible when we are successful in creating a world-class educational experience for every child in Flagstaff, from cradle through career. The image above shows the word cloud that the Leadership Council created with that question. Leadership Steering Committee Retreat

FLAGSTAFF (June 28, 2017)

On June 16, 2017, the LAUNCH Flagstaff Leadership Steering Committee met in an all-day retreat for discussion and strategic planning for the next 3-5 years.

The outcomes for the day included: making efforts for a deeper focus on the accumulation and storage of locally dis-aggregated data for use by the LAUNCH partners; continuing the development of a clear communication plan for both internal and external stakeholders; and further refinement of the organizational structure with emphasis on fiscal sustainability.

A perfect example of the power of collective impact is the recent conversation between two LAUNCH partners, Coconino Community College and Flagstaff Unified School District, to explore creating a regional career training center for adults seeking post-secondary technical job training.

Momentum was boosted this month as the Economic Collaborative of Northern Arizona (ECoNA) joined the conversation to help tap the voices of the business community, which will ultimately drive the scope and scale of the training programs that a center like this would provide. Former Flagstaff Unified School District Governing Board Member Paul Kulpinski will become the first Partnership Director of LAUNCH Flagstaff, the community-wide initiative to provide all children with a “cradle-to-career” world-class education.
