Initial Investment for Preschool Expansion Secured

FLAGSTAFF May 23, 2019

This month the City of Flagstaff pledged an initial investment in the Flagstaff preschool expansion three-year pilot project, as part of their budget allocation for fiscal year 2020.

City Council allocated $70,000 toward the first year of implementation for the project. This investment was matched by the Coconino County Board of Supervisors which allocated $35,000 for fiscal year 2020.

The Beat The Odds School Leadership Academy expanded to Northern Arizona beginning with an orientation session today for members of Flagstaff’s inaugural cohort.

Preschools Collaborate Toward Expansion

FLAGSTAFF April 11, 2019

Over thirty Flagstaff area preschool directors, early childhood educators, K-12 school officials, and interested community members met today to explore opportunities for collaboration toward expanding preschool access.

The group met as part of the community conversation started by the publication of LAUNCH Flagstaff’s report and recommendation for expanding access to high-quality preschool in Flagstaff.

Educational Leadership Academy Launches

FLAGSTAFF – April 8, 2019

Starting this summer, 25 educational leaders and aspiring leaders in the Flagstaff area will participate in a 14-month cohort of professional development in executive leadership.

The effort is the result of a year-long collaboration between LAUNCH Flagstaff and the Center for the Future of Arizona to bring the Beat the Odds School Leadership Academy to Northern Arizona.

Twelve representatives of Flagstaff area literacy programs meet today to begin a conversation focused on improving coordination between themselves and the community in alignment with the literacy strategies of K-3 educators.

Literacy professionals from the Flagstaff Public Library, other literacy programs, and parenting programs met with representatives of the Flagstaff Unified School District (FUSD) to foster the relationships that will be the foundation for future collaborative action. When her son Demitrius was 3 years old, Kate Maragos felt guilty. As a mom of three, a Sunday school teacher, a volunteer and a long-term placement foster mom, Maragos was stretched thin.

“Honestly I didn’t have much left in me to do educational things with the kids, especially Demitrius,” Maragos said.

FLAGSTAFF January 22, 2019

The Early Learning Action Network, in collaboration with the Flagstaff Unified School District (FUSD), is conducting a survey of families registering their child for kindergarten for the 2019-20 school year.
