Literacy Coordination
LITERACY COORDINATION AND ACCELERATION
IMPACTS: Kindergarten Readiness; Third Grade Reading Proficiency; Eighth Grade Math Proficiency
In September 2018, Flagstaff was designated as an “Acceleration Zone” by Read-On Arizona which is now providing 3-years of support, training and strategy implementation to LAUNCH Flagstaff for its work toward improving literacy proficiency in the early grades.
With this support, LAUNCH Flagstaff is convening representatives of community literacy resources to discuss, plan and implement efforts to improve coordinated alignment with K-3 school literacy strategies.
PROGRESS TO DATE:
- Surveyed families registering for fall 2019 kindergarten classes on their awareness and use of 25 Flagstaff area literacy resources
- Developed a detailed inventory of Flagstaff area literacy resources, their programs and goals
- Literacy Coordination Team is employing the Lectio program evaluation tool for analysis on improving program coordination
- Developed a Theory of Acceleration for increasing the percentage of children aged 0-5 who are utilizing quality early literacy programs
